Entertainment Technology Center: Fall 2012
Bootcamp was the term of endearment for the first semester of my Masters of Entertainment Technology graduate degree from the Entertainment Technology Center of Carnegie Mellon University. In this semester, students are required to develop games, make films, and even learn a little improv.
Building Virtual Worlds was the game development portion of bootcamp. It involved changing teams about every 2 weeks in order to rapidly prototype game mechanics with unique control interfaces. One project Breakfast Bop It was a semifinalist in UncommonGoods Makey Makey challenge. My final project Buccaneer Bay was awarded the First Penguin Award for its innovative gameplay by the Building Virtual Worlds Faculty.
The projects on the left are the projects for Building Virtual Worlds, a video game related class. The projects on the right are the projects for Visual Story, a film related class. Although the classes are dissimilar, the storytelling and techniques are very similar. Click on any of the pictures to see a youtube video of that project.*

Project Duration: 3 Week
Platform: Makey Makey, PS Move, Phidgets, Smartphone
Buccaneer bay was a world that merged the physical and digital space. Users would log onto a website and use their smartphone to control a water gun turret. The turret sprayed physical things to cause virtual and physical reactions. Buccaneer Bay was the fall 2012 winner of the First Penguin Award.

Our music video was made using a combination of Bangarang by Skrillex and Fix You by Coldplay. We were required to have the color red, a handbag, and a storyline that follows a descent into madness. We used a large amount of after effects. We also used stock footage to follow a bullet on its path.
